While Away, My Home Lost Colour and Sound (2020) reflects on the concept of home as familiarity, safety, and belonging. While away, memories and impressions of home are preserved through images, colour, and sound. The film explores the tension between nostalgic recollections of the artist’s home in Australia and the disorientation of returning to a landscape profoundly altered by the catastrophic fires of 2019 and 2020. Shot on 16mm film, the work experiments with in-camera shutter speeds and film development techniques to evoke memory, colour, sound, loss, and silence.
